Creating a Mission Statement That Hits the Bull’s Eye

It is no surprise that running your very own company takes way more than just setting it up. Most entrepreneurs fail to understand that creating and selling a product or service is just the initial step, and that creating a brand is the ultimate goal. The magic potion to creating a successful brand is to come up with a promising mission statement. This statement acts as a motivation factor for your team & creates a rather distinguished place for you in the ever so competitive market.

When you sit down to write a mission statement, you should focus on telling your team and your customers why you do what you do and what they should expect from you and your company.

There are a few very essential questions that you should ask yourself:

  • What are the services or products that I am offering?And why do I think it will help their lives.
  • How is/are my product and services different from those already in the market?
  • Why am I in this business and will this have a positive impact on the world?

Let’s bring Nike’s mission statement to light, it reads: “To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world,” and the legendary University of Oregon track and field coach, and Nike co-founder, Bill Bowerman, further emphasized, “If you have a body, you are an athlete.” With just a few words, Nike’s mission statement talks of their inspiration, innovation and focuses on their ideal customer base.

Once you have developed your mission statement it is suggested that you come up with a catchy tagline, such as Nike’s “just do it.” This tagline gives a quick snapshot of your mission.

We advised Bob to come up with a mission statement.
